Safety and Behavior

Visitors & Strangers

In an effort to provide a safe campus, ALL visitors must report to the office during school hours. Parents dropping-off items for a student should do so at the office. The items will be delivered or the student will be summoned to get the items when appropriate. Visitors will not be allowed to visit classrooms without an appointment.

Unauthorized adults or non-Waiau students seen on campus will be directed to the office or asked to leave campus. Please report all suspicious or suspected incidents of strangers on campus, graffiti, threats, etc. to the office immediately.

Telephone Use

The office and classroom telephones are available for student use for official school business or on an emergency basis only. Your assistance in keeping our school phones and phone lines open for school business is greatly appreciated.

Cell Phones

Cell phones and other electronic devices are contraband. We know that parents want children to have a phone in case of emergency and as a convenience, but they are a distraction to our learning environment. Cell phones must be kept off and in a bag at all times while on campus. Cell phones that are used or ringing/buzzing on campus or during school events off-campus will be confiscated and will need to be picked-up by a parent. The school is not responsible for any electronic equipment that is lost, damaged or stolen.

If you need to contact your child during the school day due to an emergency, please call the school office and we will get a message to your child.  If for a special circumstance, your child must use a cell phone during non-school hours, he/she must first inform the classroom teacher or the office staff and will need to remain under supervision of that adult while using the phone.

Prohibited Wheels

Bicycles are the only acceptable form of transportation to and from school by independent students. Bikes should be walked on campus and locked at the bike rack. Skateboards, wave boards, rip sticks, scooters, roller skates, rollerblades, heelys, and other wheeled items are extremely dangerous and prohibited at all times on school grounds. Please do not bring any of these items to school as they are considered contraband.  The school is not responsible for any item that is lost, damaged or stolen.
